When our refurbished library opens tomorrow (0930 - Monday, 19 September), residents are going to be amazed at just how smart it is I have just had a look and it is a total transformation from what it was before it was closed for a revamp. It is so bright and light!
According to Lancashire County Council, improved community facilities and up-to-date technology will be on show, following the library's £200,000 makeover.
Manager, Audrey Taylor says: "People will hardly recognise it. As well as new windows and roof, there is a completely fresh layout with new flooring and modern comfortable furniture. We now have moveable shelving so we can make room for community events and activities, and Wi-Fi access will allow people to use their own laptops.
"To help make borrowing or returning items even easier, we've installed a new self-service machine. We also have lots of new stock. Then there are public toilets, baby-changing facilities and a new vending machine – all of which add up to a more welcoming, user-friendly feel.
"The overall effect is very impressive. The refurbished library really is a great facility for local people of all ages," she said.
There will be ten People's Network computers available for library members to use. These offer free access to the internet and the National Grid for Learning, together with email and Microsoft Office applications.
Staff were relocated to other Ribble Valley libraries while the building work was taking place, and volunteers kept the home library service running throughout the closure.
Activities such as children's story time, bounce and rhyme and toddler rhyme time sessions were held every Tuesday morning at Longridge Hospital.
Longridge Library was refurbished using funds from Lancashire County Council's Regenerate scheme, a programme for modernising libraries and making them more accessible to local communities.
Here's a sneak preview of what's on offer. It's going to be great!
