Longridge Past 2

Another recent addition is this hand-tinted postcard of Tootal Height, Longridge which was posted in East Dulwich, London on 28 November 1923. How on earth did it get there? Click on the image for a closer look.

Longridge Past 1

A recent addition to my collection is this fascinating old postcard showing Kay's Entry on Tootell Height. Click on the image for a closer look.

On the reverse of the card, which was written on Thursday afternoon July 4, 1918, is this message:

My dear Harry, you will see by the postcard that I am at Longridge. Mary and I cycled here this afternoon. We have had quite a nice time. We have been on the top of Tootell Height, on the park. There are quite a lot of people here. We have just had our tea. You know we have some friends at Longridge where we come to stay.

You will have to have a day here when you come home. Goodbye Harry for now. With love from Nellie XXXXXX Cheer up.

[I presume Harry was serving with the Forces at the time]

Crime Map UK - The big Crash!

As one of those lucky enough to try out the new Crime Map UK before it crashed, I can tell you that the area around Longridge recorded 39 crimes in December 2010. Two were burglaries, while the remaining 37 involved anti social behaviour. They were spread across a wide area, not just the usual hotspots. Does that tell us anything? I'll let you draw your own conclusions . . .

Evidently, 75,000 of us have been trying to access the new website every minute. After four million people tried without success to log on, the site crashed. The Home Office advises people to keep trying! When it is up and running again, log on to www.police.uk. Enjoy!
